Crystal Tseng

I am a fully qualified and registered secondary school teacher in both Taiwan and the United Kingdom. I possess many years of full time secondary school teaching experience plus four years of teaching in University. I have received numerous awards for creative teaching and also specialised in language digital learning.

From my personal experience of teaching English in Taiwanese schools, and subsequently Chinese in English schools, I fully understand the challenges a student might face when trying to switch between these two languages. This inspired me to devise the best teaching strategies to guide students through these difficulties.

 

Whilst taking a few years of teaching break in order to concentrate on raising my family, I worked part-time as an interpreter for the British government public authorities. This helped me accumulate further experience in helping people who felt helpless or stranded in this country due to the language barrier.  I feel that a firm grasp of language is not only useful in improving one's knowledge of the world, but also acts as a powerful tool to help those in need. This inspired me to arduously hurdle the highest qualification exam in interpreting (DPSI), in order to promise both quality and professionalism to all people who would benefit from my language skills.

 

Being fluent in both Chinese and English has helped to broaden my horizons and open up fresh life opportunities. I look forward to passing on these skills to my students. Being masterful in two of the most powerful languages in the world is a valuable asset in order to maximise their own potential.

 

I am also keen in sports. Apart from achieving a distinction in my postgraduate teaching degree, I was also awarded a full sporting blue award with my contribution to table-tennis in University. My many years of achievements in this sport (from primary school to University) has instilled positivity, perseverance, and recognition of teamwork into my general work ethic. With the combined effort of myself, my members of staff, students, parents and the community, I am positive that our school can blossom into a successful and happy learning environment in the upcoming years, in order to help our next generation succeed in achieving their personal goals and targets.

經由在台灣教中國學生英文,以及在英國教英國學生中文的經歷和自己在語言教學的學歷背景,我非常了解孩子們學習時,在中文和英文這兩個語言轉換時所會遇到的困難,這啟發我不斷進修,充實自己,以期能用最佳的教學策略來協助並引導學生學習得更順利。

 

在暫停教學,專注於家庭和孩子的幾年間,我兼職英國政府公共機關的口語翻譯人員,讓我得以幫助在病痛中或困難中,因異國語言不通而無助不安的人。這經歷讓我體驗到,語言的學習,不只帶領我看世界,也讓我有能力幫助別人。這也促使我督促自己通過英國口語翻譯的最高考試(DPSI),讓自己在幫助別人的同時,能夠更專業。

 

同時懂中文和英文,著實拓展了我人生經歷的廣度和深度。期許我們在英國生長的下一代,經由對中文的學習和了解,憑著世界兩大語言的優勢,往後的人生道路能夠更寬廣。

 

我喜歡運動。研究所畢業時除了主修學科拿到最高榮譽(Distinction),也同時因乒乓球表現,拿到英國大學體育的最高獎項(BLUE)。從小到大在校隊的經歷,不但培養了我積極正向的人格特質,也讓我了解團隊合作的重要。期許這所我們為下一代所開創的華語學習樂園,能夠在校長、老師、學生、家長與社區的齊心培育下,越來越茁壯,開出屬於每個孩子自己的花,結出適合每個孩子自己的果實。
